The Manhattan Institute believes that individuals have the right to work, study, and learn in a safe and secure campus setting. The College and its students and employees share the responsibility of maintaining this atmosphere by taking reasonable precautions, being vigilant, and using a common sense approach to personal safety.
The School Director will be responsible for collecting, processing and publishing annual campus crime data, although other staff members may assist with these functions.
Definitions: Manhattan Institute operates a campus in Manhattan which does not include any parking or other institutionally-controlled areas outside of the building. Hence, for purposes of Clery Act data collection and reporting, the following definitions apply:
Campus - Any place within the campus building, including any classrooms, administrative offices, faculty offices, along with any hallways, lavatories, storage areas, stairwells, elevators or other area used by Manhattan Institute staff, faculty or students.
Public Property - Any public thoroughfares, streets, avenues, or sidewalks that are immediately adjacent to and accessible from, The Manhattan Institute campus.
Non-campus property - There are no locations at Manhattan Institute that meet the definition of non-campus property under the Clery Act.
In addition to the required annual Campus Security Report, the school will provide a timely warning to the campus community of any occurrences of the following crimes that are reported to campus officials or local police agencies and are considered to represent a serious or continuing threat to students and employees:
- homicide
- sex offense
- robbery
- burglary
- aggrevated assault
- motor vehicle theft
- arson
- hate crime
- arrests for liquor/drug or weapons violations
- campus discipline for liquor/drugs/weapon
If the school is aware of such a crime, and the management of the school feels that a serious and continuing threat to students and employees exists, the Director of Process Improvement will post notices in various locations throughout the campus, including the main entrance/exit doors at the front of the building. These notices will remain in place for ten days, or longer if school management feels a continuing threat remains.
The Manhattan Institute campus facilities are private property. All visitors must report to the reception desk and be admitted to the grounds/building. Any unauthorized visitation or other trespassing on Manhattan Institute's facilities, is strictly prohibited.
The Manhattan Institute does not maintain dormitories or other facilities that are used outside of regular school hours. Sufficient faculty and staff are available throughout the building and grounds during school hours to reduce the likelihood of serious crime during school hours. Students and employees are encouraged to be vigilant and observant when in the non-campus or public areas, and to protect themselves and each other by reporting suspicious or illegal activity to proper authorities immediately.
The Manhattan Institute does not maintain an institutional law enforcement department or employ a security force. All crimes and other emergencies will be handled by the NYPD or other local law enforcement agencies as appropriate.
The Manhattan Institute has a strong Policy on Drugs and Alcohol to protect the safety of our students, faculty and staff. Follow this link to Manhattan Institute's Drug and Alcohol Policy.
The Manhattan Institute does not maintain dormitories or other facilities that are used outside of regular school hours. Sufficient faculty and staff are available throughout the building and grounds during school hours to make such an occurrence unlikely. Any crime, including sexual assault, on or off campus, should be reported immediately to the NYPD or other appropriate law enforcement agency.
